How
I became a weaver/fiber artist:
Infant
observer - napping/playing on hand made braided wool rugs my
mother made from our families out grown clothing.
Award winner won the scholastic art award
for still life oil and a found art sculpture.
From Painter to sewer - shifting to sewing and designing
my own wardrobe in secondary school, college and beyond.
Designer professional BFA
in environmental design becomes interior designer.
Learner of fibers - sought out and studied with weaving
teacher Mary Pendelton, and spinners Harry and Olive Linder.
Designer becomes teacher - back to
university certified art teacher k -12.
Art
teacher becomes sewing teacher - taught hundreds of children
through adults clothing construction from A artist point of view.
Sewing teacher becomes dress maker
- Heart Gallery custom sewed clothing maker and designer of wedding
gowns.
Maker of new weavers
worked for many years managed yarn/fiber stores. Taught in many
shops turning knitters into weavers ,spinners,with ridged heddle
looms and privately with floor looms.
Fiber
artist helps fiber artist - winning recognition in Santa Cruz
County and nationally for my weaving, knitting, felted, and clothing
that art gained me the reputation of being an inspirer and problem
solver.
Weaver becomes designer
- original weavings and felted pieces sold in galleries and shops
in San Jose and Santa Cruz California
Fiber
as therapy listening is very important to teaching.
Spiritual - chaos finds peaceful
solutions through weaving and fiber self expression.
Weaver becomes SAORI weaver - leaving stale conventional
weaving behind to weave the SAORI way of free expression with
no mistakes. a powerful way to remember of how to learn {and
unlearn}.
